Hi, my name is Rafa, I'm 33 years old, and I’m attending the third year of Geology at Universitat de Barcelona.
I started quite later, at 31 years old, since I'm studying for pure passion, and not as an obligation. When I was a kid I used to go with my father to the forests and there, I dug sandstone outcrops pretending they were mines. Later on, about 8 years old, I started a mineral collection. Now, I search them myself.
My specialty is UV fluorescence (especially short wave) and the activator elements within the minerals, like REE. I even built my own portable SW-UV lights, so I'm able to determine certain specimens in the field.
I'm going to start my internship this year, using XRF, XRD and other analytical methods. My focus will be mineral characterization and mineral deposits.
